Fix Subwoofer Making Noise Without Input

Subwoofers are used to improve the quality of the sound. Basically, subwoofers boost the frequency of sounds, irrespective of what is the original frequency. The sound of guitars, piano, and other musical instruments is enhanced and more focused by it. But an abnormal subwoofer can diminish the melodious experience of listening to things. We will discuss why the subwoofer makes noise without input and what to do in this case?

We will go through some of the reasons that might cause the problem and some easy fixes that we can try.

Connection problem

A fair connection may not be established due to which a humming sound is listened to by the ears which are not considered HD. So, check the connection of the Subwoofer whether the wires are connected to it properly or not.

If not then read the manual and try to change the combination of wires which causes the disruption.

Wiring issue

There might be an issue in the wiring of the subwoofer due to which a slight hum sound is heard. Interference between the wires happens due to which this occurs.

For this purpose, check if the audio and power wires are bundled over each other. Straighten them and do not let them close to each other.

When wires are placed close to each other, interference occurs due to which we hear a sound coming out of our subwoofer.

We can use a cable managing rack that straightens the cable and prevents them from getting closer to each other. This can also nullify the problem of sound coming from the subwoofer even with no input.

Check ground loop

A ground loop can also become the root cause of the problem. A ground loop occurs when one of the components is noisy in the loop.

When this loop returns the current in the other components, it causes noise in all of them. This is the reason why the same noise is dispersed in all the other components. Noise may also be produced by it.

To ensure that it is the problem, connect your subwoofer to another AC source which would clarify the main issue.

Check the internal Subwoofer’s Amp

There is a possibility that the internal Amp might be damaged due to a surge of power which has caused the problem to happen.

Amp is responsible for amplifying any type of signal. It can turn any weak signal into a stronger one.

So, a single component or more than one could be damaged which had caused the problem. Sometimes the capacitors in the Amb are damaged which causes the problem. The issue can be solved sometimes by simply changing the capacitors by yourself.

If the problem does not sort out, then try to change the Amp or get it repaired by some expert related to the field of electronics.
