If your mobility scooter starts beeping and it won’t move, you might be wondering what to do next. This short guide can help you figure out the problem and get your mobility scooter moving again quickly.
The first thing to check when your mobility scooter won’t move and it’s beeping is the wheel sensors on the back or front of the scooter. These sensors are infrared beam detectors that measure how far the wheels have rotated to determine how much the scooter has moved.
I also changed these wheel sensors when I faced this problem. Soon, the problem was eradicated. If this does not work for you, try other fixes.
Sometimes your mobility scooter will not move or charge because of a bad battery. Remove and replace it with a fully charged battery or have it checked by your mobility technician.
Remove Power: Your power may be off when your mobility scooter is still beeping. This could be because there is another device plugged into that outlet or, if you live in an area with hurricanes, you may have had your power cut to prevent property damage during a storm surge.
Check The Charger
Your scooter’s battery is likely not charged and you’ll need to plug it in. If your scooter is unplugged, give it a few hours to charge before using it again.
If you notice that your mobility scooter charger isn’t charging properly, you should have an electrician or technician examine your device and check its connections.
It’s a good idea to have them examine any electrical appliances you use frequently to ensure they are working properly and don’t pose a safety hazard.
Clean The Housing
The first step to diagnosing and solving your mobility scooter problems is cleaning. Many times you’ll find a cleaning solution that will solve or at least identify issues with your scooter.
To clean, gently turn on your mobility scooter by pressing down on its handlebars and spinning them forward. While it’s turned on, move it back and forth for about five minutes to help lubricate it.
Then, spray some compressed air into its cracks and crevices, as well as inside its charging port (if there is one) using an old toothbrush or a special brush designed for electronics. While doing so, make sure you never use too much force. You don’t want to damage anything by accident!
If your motor is beeping and not moving, you should replace your motor brushes. A simple way to test for worn brushes is to push them along a hard surface like concrete or flooring and look at your brush.
If you see a lot of black residues or wear marks on your brush then you need to change them as soon as possible. Do so by following these steps:

6. Plug Power Cord In
7 Push The Scooter Around To Test
8 If Beeps Resume Use Otherwise Return It To Store For Repair Under Warranty: This should fix any beeping issues with your mobility scooter and allow you to get back on the road again!
The most common cause of a scooter that won’t run is a broken belt. The belt provides power to drive the motor and if it breaks, then you have no power, and no way to use your scooter.
It’s best to know how to replace belts before an emergency occurs, which is why we wrote an entire guide on them! We also recommend replacing belts at least every two years (or more often if you ride frequently).
First, check to see if your batteries are dead or in need of replacement. If your scooter is beeping and not moving it could be a simple fix. Before ordering new batteries you should try replacing them first with either AAs or 14500 sizes 3V lithium batteries.
Make sure they are brand new and then replace them one at a time. You will likely hear a click when they are fully seated in their proper slot.
Next, check to make sure both batteries (if using AAs) have been properly inserted into their slots with all of their terminals exposed and facing upward, toward you. Then turn on your power switch and see if your scooter will respond to power being applied.
