If your Maytag dishwasher won’t turn on, there are several possible culprits. Luckily, each of these has an easy fix, so you don’t have to call the repairman or replace the machine right away.
I didn’t know what to do when I faced the same problem. As soon as I searched through the internet and did some research, I got my problem solved.
Here are the most common problems and how to fix them yourself with little hassle.
Remove The Wash Arm
In many cases, when a dishwasher won’t turn on it’s because there is something wrong with its power cord. First, try moving the power cord around or rotating it 180 degrees to see if that makes a difference.
If that doesn’t work, then check for issues with other components of your dishwasher such as leaky hoses and clogged pumps. Make sure to check out these five ways to clean your dishwasher and make sure your dishes come out sparkling after each wash cycle!
Clean The Solenoid Valve
Â
The solenoid valve is a part of your dishwasher that turns on and off. Its job is to switch between hot and cold water so you don’t have to worry about turning on two separate valves. Over time, food particles can clog it up and prevent it from opening and closing.
Â
You can fix a dishwasher that isn’t turning on by cleaning out any gunk that may be preventing it from working properly. Once you clean out all debris in your solenoid valve, test your dishwasher to see if it works properly. You should have fresh, hot water running through your machine again in no time!
Replace The Solenoid Valve
If you look down into your machine and see a small hose connected to a metal valve, then that’s your solenoid valve. If it is leaking, broken, or clogged with soap build-up, then you’ll need to replace it.
You can find replacement solenoid valves for about $15 at most hardware stores and big-box retailers. Install it in place of your current one and reconnect everything.
Make sure all connections are tightened securely before turning on your dishwasher. Your dishwasher should now be working again without any problems.

Check All Electrical Connections
You can easily check if your dishwasher is properly connected. You need to unplug your dishwasher and plug it back in. If you are having trouble plugging it back in, try using a different outlet.
If nothing happens after you’ve plugged it back in, there might be a problem with your outlet, wiring, or circuit breaker. A faulty electrical connection can cause some appliances to not work properly or turn on at all.
So before calling an appliance repairman, try to fix the problem yourself by checking your connections and outlets first.
Reinstall The Wash Arm And Rinse Aid Dispenser
Lift out of the dishwasher and gently clean both top and bottom surfaces. The Wash arm may come off when you lift it out because of air trapped in its hinge area.
Use an air compressor to blow air into the hinge. Remove the hose from one end of the wash arm, then remove the clamp from the other end and install the hose.
Put clamp back on the hose and reinstall the wash arm in the dishwasher at a 45-degree angle so that it is pointing toward the center rear of the dishwasher cabinet. Remove rinse aid dispenser by lifting up on the front edge.

Conclusion
If you have followed these instructions but your dishwasher is still not turning on, it may be a more serious problem that requires professional repair.
Before you do anything, check your outlet and make sure there are no tripped breakers or blown fuses.
If everything is fine on that end, call your local appliance repair shop to see if they can help you figure out what’s wrong with your dishwasher.
If not, then it’s time to consult a plumber who may be able to help.

But before going any further, try shutting off the breaker for your dishwasher and wait five minutes before turning it back on to reset any internal issues that might be causing it not to work properly.
