How do we connect a single display?
To connect two displays to the system, we must know how to connect a single display. The most important step of it is to connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI port.
After you have inserted the HDMI cable into the port, the next step is to program the display that you have attached to the system.
After attaching a single display, you need to increase the number of displays and you only have a single HDMI port in your laptop, what will you do in that case?
First things first
Before you make sure that how many of the monitors you want to connect to your laptop, you need to make sure that for what purpose do you want to connect the displays. You either want to connect the displays to Extend the display or to Mirror the display.
If you want to connect in order to extend the display, then you need to follow the below-mentioned steps.
Mirror the display
If you want to mirror the display, then a simple HDMI splitter can do the job for you because you do not want to extend the display to all the other displays. You only want to see the same display on the other devices as shown on the laptop.
You can use an HDMI splitter. It can use two HDMI cables from the 2 displays and send the signals from both of them to a single HDMI port. This can show the same display to all the screens as shown on the laptop and do the job for you.
You do not need any extra accessories or need to follow any extra steps. You simply need to connect the HDMI cables into the splitter and it will do the job for you.
Extend the display
Extending the display means extending the display of the laptop to all the screens attached to it and using the entire system as a single unit. It helps in doing various functions easily at a single time without any issue.
You cannot extend the display via an HDMI splitter. HDMI splitter can only mirror the display and cannot extend because in HDMI splitter, the same signal transfers to both the displays from the laptop. We can try to do it in a different way.
Connect via VGA or DVI
Most of the laptops that we see nowadays come with a single HDMI port and are unable to extend the displays to two monitors via HDMI cable. But we can try other ports like VGA or DVI ports in order to extend our display.
What we need to do is simply connect the monitors via VGA or DVI cable to the laptop and then program the devices from the laptop. You can easily use both of the displays easily.
Program the monitors
After connecting all the wires to the required inputs, the next step is to program the monitors that you have connected. It would not work only by connecting them. Some necessary settings need to be changed before the operation.
Right-click on the desktop of the PC and select Display Settings. You can see Multiple Display Settings. Let the computer know what do u want from the displays.
Two options are available:
- Screen mirroring
- Extend display
Both of them have different functions. One is completely different from the other.
If you want the same system on Mac, First of all, Click Menu and then click on the option of System Preferences.
Then, select Display settings. Then choose Mirror to mirror your screen to other displays and to use the Extend screen feature, uncheck the Mirror box.
