TogglePrecaution!
This guide will tell you about tested and verified options. However, you must try them with precaution and care. Do not use a too high-voltage charging cable or adapter, it can damage your toothbrush.
You should not use phone charger or any other adapter that provides a very high voltage. Moreover, while using the power bank or wireless cradles, make sure they deliver normal range of voltage required for your toothbrush.
Option#1. Use a USB Car Adapter
There are a number of adapters on Amazon and other sites that will fit in your car’s cigarette lighter, including one from Anker. Put it in your car, plug in your toothbrush’s charging stand (for a FlexCare Platinum), and you’re all set.
A 4-pack of these USB adapters is about $15. This is a convenient and cheap way to keep your toothbrush charged, even when you don’t have access to electricity.
Option#2. Use a Standard USB Cord
You don’t need to buy a new charger; you just need an old iPhone or iPad charger that still works.
- Remove the metal cap at one end of your charger. But don’t take out any screws!
- Just pry it off with your fingers. It should pop right off without much effort.
- Then, remove about three inches of cord from inside and strip off about an inch of plastic covering.
- That will expose two wires—one red and one white.
- You can use this USB cord to charge your toothbrush.
Option#3. Use An Apple Lightning Cable
If you own an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and have one of those cables (or any Lightning cable), you have a charging option. Though not as powerful as a regular charger, it can get some juice into your toothbrush.
Just plug your device into one end of the cord and connect that to your toothbrush’s base. One caveat: This will likely take a while and could also damage your device’s battery over time if done too often.
If you’re planning on using this hack often, make sure to keep a fully charged backup cable nearby for emergencies. As always, be careful when plugging in electronics near water. You don’t want an oral electrocution accident on top of everything else!
Option#4. Use A MicroUSB Cable
As long as you have a micro USB cable and a computer, you can charge your toothbrush just like you would with a charger.
Connect one end of your charging cable to your electric toothbrush and then plug the other end into your computer.
You don’t need to worry about it not working because there’s no proprietary software or hardware needed to get it to work.
This kind of thing works on every computer ever made. Unless you’re using an older version, that is—you’ll need at least Windows XP and OS X 10.5 or higher.
Option#5. Use a PC USB Port
A PC USB port provides more power than a wall charger. Connect your toothbrush to a spare USB port using an inexpensive mini-USB cable. Then, you can charge your toothbrush almost as quickly as you would from a wall outlet.
Note that connecting your toothbrush to a PC will not activate the brush’s whitening mode, but it will charge your battery.
If you don’t mind waiting for it to finish charging before using it, then using a PC is definitely an option! Click here for some pictures on how to connect your Oral-B electric toothbrushes to a PC or laptop computer USB port.

Conclusion
You can charge a toothbrush without using a charger, but you should consider using a charger. It is convenient to have your toothbrush charged while you sleep.
However, there are instances where it is not possible to use a regular charger. In these cases, there are alternative ways of charging your toothbrush that do not require connecting it to an electrical outlet.
Depending on how long your oral-b brush is going to be unused, and how accessible an electrical source is, you might choose one charging method over another.
