Electric Recliner or power recliner is kind of electrical chair which can be adjusted according to your need. Some Electric Recliner chairs runs with battery and some with electric power. These chairs provides button features to adjust its state according to your comfort zone. But some times Electric Recliner Reset Button causes problem.
If you are having trouble with the power reclining mechanism of your electric recliner, there could be several reasons why this is happening.
Here are some of the most common causes of electric recliner problems, along with their solutions and how to fix them. When I got a recliner, it worked perfectly fine in the beginning but as time passed by, I felt the need to reset it. Here’s what I did.
Turn off your recliner
If your recliner is already off, you’re ready to proceed. If it isn’t off, then turn it off. Look for a button on your recliner that reads OFF or STOP.
Press that button and wait a few seconds before proceeding to the next step. It may be helpful to plug in an electric socket near your recliner so you can easily find power cords later if you need them.
Locate the Electric Recliner reset button
The reset button is located within a small hole in your remote control. This hole will be about half an inch deep and about a third of an inch wide. The button inside will have a simple triangular shape to it, with three sides and no slant at all.
Use your fingernail or another thin object to pry open your remote control’s housing; do not use any type of metal object as you could damage components inside.
Once you’ve opened up your remote control, use your finger to locate and press down on the reset button for about three seconds. After pressing for about three seconds, leave it be for one minute before moving on to the next step.
Press the button with a pen tip
Once you’ve released your recliner handle and it’s fully extended, slowly twist it back into its original position. You should feel a click as you push down on it.
If you don’t, then you need to do step 1 first before continuing. If there are still no clicks at all, then continue to the step below. If your recliner has any features or is larger than average, consider getting help from someone with stronger hands than yours (but don’t overtighten).
Use pliers or needle-nose pliers: This technique involves using long-nosed pliers to reach inside and directly press in on a tab found inside your reclining handle so that it pops into place correctly.
Test your recliner
When you find the wire that turns on your recliner and it doesn’t turn on anymore, that is a good thing. This means you just have to replace it. Take your new switch wire and run it from where your old one broke off to where it should plug into your recliner.
Turn all power to your home off and then plug in your new switch wire. If it works, great! If not, you may need to troubleshoot further or replace something else if necessary (power cord of chair). Turn the power back on and enjoy sitting down in an easily adjustable chair!
Contact electrician
Before you can start repairing your reclining mechanism, you need to get it out of its cover. Remove all screws holding it in place and gently pull it out. Next, remove all gears inside and take a picture of how they are connected to each other (if possible).
Clean them off if they are dirty and then try to put everything back together again following your notes from before. If you still can’t figure out how things go back together, call a technician to fix your electric recliner for you!
