GE Ice Maker Not Working After Filter Changed-An Ultimate Guide

I’ve had my GE ice maker since 2010 and it still works just fine today. But when I changed the filter recently I noticed that it was no longer making ice as fast as before.

Fortunately, there were two reasons for this and both of them were simple to fix, which I’ll share with you now. Learn why my ice maker stopped working after the filter was changed and how to fix it below.

If your ice maker doesn’t work after you replace the filter, there may be a few reasons why this is happening. First, it’s important to note that this problem isn’t common at all.

But it can happen when an appliance has been running for an extended period without the filter being changed.

When the ice maker has been having issues for some time already and the accumulation of sediment in the water line blocked water from flowing into the ice tray. In any case, if your ice maker doesn’t work after changing its filter.

Consider a Portable Air Purifier if you have allergies

If you’re sick of using HEPA filters and then having to throw them away, consider an air purifier with a washable, reusable filter.

You can get one online or at home improvement stores like Lowe’s or Home Depot for under $60. They aren’t as efficient as HEPA air purifiers, but they don’t cost much more and will last for several years if taken care of properly.

Portable air purifiers are also great for traveling. Just make sure you have enough batteries on hand.

Most refrigerators have a water line that leads to an ice maker, usually inside of the freezer. This line runs through a filter so that minerals and contaminants in your home’s water supply aren’t allowed into your refrigerator.

These filters need to be replaced once they get clogged with minerals. If you’ve recently replaced your refrigerator’s water filters, and your ice maker still isn’t working properly, there could be a problem with another part of your system.

The Right Way to Clean a Water Filter

Cleaning your water filter should be done when replacing it as part of your regular maintenance. It may also be necessary to clean an old or heavily used water filter due to clogs and sediment build-up.

The right way to clean a water filter, however, will depend on what type of system you have. There are several types of in-home water filtration systems such as reverse osmosis, carbon filtration, and distillation systems.

Each one works differently but all require some basic knowledge about how they work and how to properly maintain them.

Take a look inside your refrigerator and make sure that there isn’t any food or foreign objects blocking it. Make sure that you have removed all of your food from your freezer.

If everything looks good and it still isn’t working. Then you should check to see if there are any switches or buttons on it. Press each button or switch until one of them causes it to stop blinking.

That might be what’s causing it to work again. When replacing filters, make sure you aren’t putting in a used one.

Is the Motor Dead?

If your ice maker quit working and you don’t hear a humming sound, there’s a good chance your motor is dead. Replacing an ice maker motor can be expensive.

Several factors may cause an overload or burnout in an electric motor.

  • First, make sure to check if there’s any water or ice in the unit; if so, clean it out before doing anything else.
  • Next, see if there’s power going to your appliance by using a voltage tester.
  • If there isn’t power coming into your ice maker, then it means something has happened with either the circuit breaker or fuse box.
  • However, if you have power going into your appliance but no ice comes out of it, then replace its motor immediately because its other parts could go bad soon as well.

How I Resolved My Issue with the GE Profile Ice Maker

As a filter manufacturer, we’re asked every week for advice on how to fix an ice maker that stopped working. This can happen for any number of reasons and may be caused by more than one issue.

If you suspect that your ice maker is not making much or any ice, here are a few things to check. First, make sure there is water coming in and if necessary have your faucet adjusted or replaced by a plumber.

Conclusion

The first step to troubleshooting a Ge ice maker is to check your faucet to make sure there is sufficient water pressure for proper operation. If you are using well water, check with a water testing laboratory for recommended minimum pressures for your model.

If possible, install a pressure regulator on your cold-water line at least two feet before it reaches your ice maker. I’m sure there are many reasons why your ice maker may stop working.

The reason in my case was a little mystery, so I’ll explain it to anyone else having problems. To change out the water filter on our refrigerator I had to remove some parts that had been in place for five years.

In other words, these parts had probably never been removed before. After removing them, I put everything back together and discovered that our ice maker (which we use more than any other feature of our refrigerator) no longer worked.
