It’s frustrating to buy something brand new, only to discover that it doesn’t work as expected when you try to use it the first time. This can happen with a new car, an appliance, or even your new hoverboard.
Whether your hoverboard has stopped responding to input or won’t turn on at all, there are some common troubleshooting tips that might help you get back up and rolling on your hoverboard again before you call customer service or return it to the store.
All of these steps personally tried and I was finally able to solve the problem. I could not solve the issue before but as soon as I witnessed the issue, I sorted it out.

ToggleAre you using the right charger?
The most common reason that a board won’t turn on or charge is that you are using a charger meant for another device. Using an incompatible charger can cause damage to your battery, so check that you have purchased an authentic part.
It may seem obvious but keep in mind that imitation chargers exist and they look very similar to the real thing. Make sure your charger has proper markings and safety certification before plugging it in.
Another easy way to avoid problems with charging is to keep your battery at room temperature while charging.
You should also only use electrical outlets; never try to charge with a USB port or car charger. If your board still isn’t working, contact customer service for help diagnosing any potential issues with your board.
Is it too hot?
If your product was in storage or shipping for a long time, you’ll want to give it a chance to acclimate.
If it’s summer or if you’re storing your item near heat sources (such as close to a furnace), give it at least 12 hours at room temperature before plugging it in and using it.
For example, last summer we had an office full of fans on, which really dried out all of our gadgets. When we turned them back on in winter, many refused to charge and needed new batteries.
Sometimes we charge both. Being too hot can be just as bad as being too cold for some electronic devices!
Is your safety key in place?
There’s a safety key that needs to be inserted into your charger before you use it. If you purchased a used device, make sure to check for a key.
If there isn’t one in place, call customer service and have them send you one as soon as possible. Without it, your board might overheat and catch fire.
Have you fully charged your battery?
Hoverboards run on lithium-ion batteries, which can overheat and cause safety issues. If your battery is fully drained, it’s possible that you won’t be able to turn it back on without charging.
It’s important to charge your hoverboard overnight before using it for longer periods so that you don’t run into any issues.
The device comes with a charger, but if you have a phone or computer with a USB port, those will work as well. Just plug in and let it charge overnight (or all day).
Make sure you purchase an official charger because third-party knockoffs have been known to cause damage.
Did you clean your self-balancing scooter correctly?
Self-balancing scooters are easy to take care of, but they do require regular maintenance.
The more you use your self-balancing scooter, the more frequently you should clean it and recharge its batteries. A good rule of thumb is to clean and charge it every time you’ve used it three times.
This could vary depending on how much you use your scooter and in what condition it was left in between uses, but at least once a week will keep your device running smoothly.
Some users make sure they dry their scooter after a wet ride with a hair dryer or allow them to air out for 24 hours before charging them again.
This keeps water from building up inside their device which can damage its internal components and shorten its battery life.
